Step 1: Initial consultation
What to Expect at Your Child’s Initial Occupational Therapy Consultation
Your child’s first appointment with Milestones OT is an initial consultation, which can be held either face-to-face or over the phone, depending on your preference and your child’s needs.
Face-to-Face Consultation
In a face-to-face session (lasting up to one hour), the therapist will spend approximately 20 minutes interacting directly with your child to gain a brief overview of their strengths, challenges, and overall engagement. The remainder of the session is focused on gathering detailed information from the parent or caregiver. This includes discussing:
- Your child’s daily routines (eating, sleeping, hygiene, dressing)
- Emotional regulation and transitions
- Sensory preferences
- Gross and fine motor development
Please dress your child in comfortable, movement-friendly clothing, and ensure that at least one parent or caregiver is present. To maintain a focused and calm environment, we ask that siblings not attend the session.
Note: A written report is not provided following the initial consultation. Instead, you’ll receive a verbal summary of observations and recommendations.
Phone Consultation
If you prefer a phone consultation, the session will focus solely on a caregiver discussion. In this format, the child is not present, and the therapist will talk with you about your concerns, your child’s history, developmental routines, and sensory or behavioural observations. This option is ideal for families who want to discuss whether a full evaluation is needed before proceeding further.
In both consultation formats, you may be asked to complete questionnaires or forms ahead of time. These help us understand your child’s sensory profile and daily functioning.
After the Session
At the end of the consultation, the therapist will provide a verbal summary of findings and may discuss potential therapy goals based on what was shared or observed. Using this information, we will outline a plan for any recommended ongoing therapy sessions tailored specifically to your child’s developmental needs.
The cost of the initial meeting is €120 (60 minutes)
